General Information
On October 1, 2008, Leong & Associates Actuaries and Consultants was acquired by Morneau Shepell Ltd. (formerly Morneau Sobeco Income Fund). Its Morneau Shepell business division is the largest Canadian-owned pension and benefits consulting and outsourcing firm. Morneau Shepell serves thousands of clients, ranging from Fortune 500 companies to small and medium-sized employers, and is excited to welcome Leong & Associates to expand its pension consulting presence in Western Canada.
Leong & Associates was a British Columbia-based business wholly-owned by its principals and was the largest independent actuarial and consulting firm in Western Canada. Julian Leong founded the firm in Vancouver in 1989, specializing in actuarial and broader pension consulting solutions.
National Reputation
Leong & Associates has a national reputation as a leading innovator in the area of executive pension planning using both registered and non-registered retirement plans. Julian Leong is one of only a handful of actuaries on the Pension Advisory Committee, a Canada Revenue Agency vehicle for information-sharing between the Canada Revenue Agency and the pension industry. Our expertise has been further recognized by the Canada Revenue Agency through our participation in the Pension Roundtables and Consultation Sessions in Ottawa. Mr. Leong has been the only actuary from Western Canada invited to all of these meetings and his participation demonstrates the high regard in which our firm is held by the federal regulators.
During our early years, Leong & Associates had the privilege of serving a few clients in remote regions. Experience has shown that our level of service, professionalism, and competitive fee structure, together with regular client visits, were a refreshing change for the "less called on areas". We have found our "long-distance" clients extremely satisfied with our service. This is supported by their referral of friends and business colleagues to Leong & Associates. Currently, we have clients across Canada from Prince Edward Island to Vancouver Island and as far north as the Yukon, as well as subsidiaries of U.S. parent organizations.
